This study investigated the area of Aboriginal employment in the Port Augusta-Flinders Ranges region of South Australia. Terms of reference include: experience and effects of employment and unemployment for Aborigines in the region; experience of employers of Aborigines in the region and effect of this on Aboriginal employment prospects; areas of industrial development in the region and their potential for creating employment opportunities; providing a basis for discussion of strategies and programs for assisting Aborigines in the region to train for, find, and remain in permanent employment. One important recommendation made, that training authorities in other States should examine the Aboriginal Vocational Training scheme in [New South Wales] NSW to assess its applicability elsewhere, was endorsed by the Trade Qualification Group.
